I went in for my second opinion yesterday. I really liked the guy that I saw. He was referred to me by a friend of my boss'. It turns out that he is the orthopedic surgeon for The Capitols and the Redskins. I guess if he's good enough for them...
He spent a lot of time moving my shoulder around and getting a feel for what was causing my pain. He found that I am not only slipping out from the front of my shoulder, but also from the back (that's not good). He was comparing me to a guy that had been in just before me. The guy had a sudden injury to his shoulder and it had been torn. The doc said that guy was lucky because it was easier to fix his problem that it will be to fix mine. According to the doc, it's more difficult to fix people experiencing the pain that I'm experiencing because it's much more difficult to pinpoint where the specific problem is.
He looked at my MRI and said it looks like there's a tear in my labrum, which will need to be fixed. He also said that he'll tighten up the loose, smaller muscles that keep my shoulder in place (I've heard this before). Unlike my other doctor he seemed pretty confident that I should get the surgery. At this point it's pretty much a done deal. I also think that I'll be having the second doctor work on my shoulder. I was really impressed with him... especially when he gave me his personal cell phone number. Don't get too excited ladies... I know how great would that be shoulder surgery and a date.. but he's married with a child. Even if that's not a deal breaker for him, it certainly is for me. But honestly, he gave me his number so I could call and ask any questions.
Here's the guy who's going to make me solid and strong...

He says it'll be about 6 months of recovery with about 6 weeks in a sling. The success of the surgery is between 85-90%. I'm not thrilled with those numbers, but I don't really see much of a choice at this point.
Workout:
partition as needed..
50 pullups
40 KB Swings
30 Box jumps
1000 meter run
40 pullups
40 pullups
30 KB Swings
50 Box jumps
1000 meter run (nearly threw up here)
30 pullups
50 KB swings
40 Box jumps
Time: 43:46.. I think this was my time.. I'll correct if it's wrong...
Since my doctor's appointment was at 8:30, I had to roll out of bed at 4:45 to get to the 5:30am class. I think I crossed the threshold into crazy. I figured, I'd really want to stress my shoulder so I could remember how painful it is so I could tell the doc. That makes sense doesn't it?? Anyway, 120 pullups did the trick.. by the third round it was feeling sufficiently loose in the socket. SWEET!

I'm sorry to hear that the surgery is a definite... but just think of how much fun you'll get to have when you're not loose anymore...
Wow... that sounded bad...
Hahaha - WOW Katie. Anyway - it was really smart of you to get a second opinion, and the numbers are pretty damn good, if not as high as you'd like them to be.
Keep us up to date!
Hey lady I miss you!
