Fight Gone Bad - For Real
Sunday, April 28;
Finally all of that hard work has paid off. I've been battling stupid Fight Gone Bad for over a year now. My goal has always been to break 300. It doesn't sound too far off. Last year my score was 297.5 (we were still doing pullups which created fractions of reps). This year I've done FGB a few times. I've always been a few points away from my goal. The worst attempt was over the winter. I had just gotten over a nasty sickness and my shoulder was doing really badly. I think I got about 260.
I woke up this morning and I no desire to do today's workout. Last year I had done a lot of fundraising and I was really intesnse about it. This year, I haven't had much time to dedicate to fundraising, but I have been making all of the FGB practices, so I knew I'd be pretty close to my goal.
Today, I decided to take a few new tactics. I asked my partner (Byron, who was a counting super star) to cout total reps, so I'd know how far away from my goal I was. Then I also took Stuart's advice into consideration. I scrapped the old tactic of setting goal reps for each station. That was stopping me from really pushing it in the first round. This time I was able to get well over 100 in my first round, which I've never done before. I got 40 reps in the box jumps right off the bat. That made a huge difference.
I knew going into the last roung that I only had to get 75 reps to make my goal. That meant 25 reps at box jumps, kb high pulls and push press. Then the reps at row and wall ball were just extra love. I knew I had made it by the time I got to my final station, but Byron was counting reps in the individual round. That put me at about 80 when I started push press. I thought my addition had been right, but I didn't want to risk it. I pushed through to get 20 more reps to nearly make 100 reps in my final round. I missed that by 1 or 2 reps.
That didn't matter though, because my final score was 328! Score! I not only met my goal but I killed it. I AM THRILLED!
A big thanks for all my FGB counting partners (Alyse, Gar & Byron). Thanks Stuart for suggesting that I get rid of my pacing strategy. I also brought back a little of Ray's encouragement from last year. The "pick it up and give me one rep" rule really helped this morning. Thanks Ray!

Dating Danny
Thursday, Sept. 25,
I didn't realize that when I showed up to class this morning that I'd being going on a date with one of CFOT's most eligible batchelors!!
Yes, ladies.. I am lucky... you are not.
Danny and I agreed to meet at Jungles gym for a quickie. Since I drink coffee during my workouts, I am justified in calling it a "coffee date". I put on my most flattering workout outfit, and Danny did the same. Then crazyness ensued.

Workout:
5 rounds of 5 reps/Goal: move as much weight as possible
Strict Press
Weighted Dead hang Pullup
My total moved weight was: 4,773
Now that I've given you details about the workout.. here are some of the more juicy bits of the date. (Jerry chaperoned, so it's not going to be too juicy) Danny and I held hands at one point. He did pullups with about 100 pounds attached to him. I tried to do a pullup with a 5lb weight in my sportsbra.. we'll just say.. it didn't work. I think it also may be on tape :\ (Jerry, DO NOT post that). I think there was also a point where Jerry asked how Danny and I made out. I replied, "We made out well!" :0

Just Say "No" to the Snatch
Monday, September 22;
Today's workout involved extreme amounts of Snatches. This is the same movement I was working on a nearly a year ago when I tweaked my shoulder. I didn't realize it until the next day, but since then I'm really weary of this movement.
I subbed out the barbell snatch for a right arm Dumbell snatch. I did 30lb snatches with my Right hand. It's a little annoying because I got a decent time with the modification, but I know I would have a solid time doing barbell snatches with the prescribed weight. Argh!
It's easy to be hard, but it's hard to be smart??!
Workout:
30 R arm dumbbell snatch (30lb)
30 Pullups
800 meter run
25 R arm Dumbbell snatch (30lb)
25 Pullups
800 meter run
20 R arm Dumbbell snatch (30lb)
20 Pullups

On the Road: Day #3
Wednesday, Sept. 17;
Florida is hot and very strange. We are in Orlando tonight and tomorrow and then we head north. I was hoping to get a workout in at one of the local affiliates, but we got to our hotel about 20 minutes before the class started. Traffic was pretty bad, and my directions were wrong. I had to scratch that plan, which bummed me out. The next affiliate stop looks like it may be of Friday. It's probably a good thing. I'm still sore and bruised from Monday's painful workout.
No funny stories to share.. just lots of Floridians with big hair and fake fingernails (scary).
