Dating Danny

Thursday, Sept. 25,

I didn't realize that when I showed up to class this morning that I'd being going on a date with one of CFOT's most eligible batchelors!!

Yes, ladies.. I am lucky... you are not.

Danny and I agreed to meet at Jungles gym for a quickie. Since I drink coffee during my workouts, I am justified in calling it a "coffee date". I put on my most flattering workout outfit, and Danny did the same. Then crazyness ensued.

Workout:
5 rounds of 5 reps/Goal: move as much weight as possible
Strict Press
Weighted Dead hang Pullup

My total moved weight was: 4,773

Now that I've given you details about the workout.. here are some of the more juicy bits of the date. (Jerry chaperoned, so it's not going to be too juicy) Danny and I held hands at one point. He did pullups with about 100 pounds attached to him. I tried to do a pullup with a 5lb weight in my sportsbra.. we'll just say.. it didn't work. I think it also may be on tape :\ (Jerry, DO NOT post that). I think there was also a point where Jerry asked how Danny and I made out. I replied, "We made out well!" :0

Just Say "No" to the Snatch

Monday, September 22;

Today's workout involved extreme amounts of Snatches. This is the same movement I was working on a nearly a year ago when I tweaked my shoulder. I didn't realize it until the next day, but since then I'm really weary of this movement.

I subbed out the barbell snatch for a right arm Dumbell snatch. I did 30lb snatches with my Right hand. It's a little annoying because I got a decent time with the modification, but I know I would have a solid time doing barbell snatches with the prescribed weight. Argh!

It's easy to be hard, but it's hard to be smart??!

Workout:
30 R arm dumbbell snatch (30lb)
30 Pullups
800 meter run
25 R arm Dumbbell snatch (30lb)
25 Pullups
800 meter run
20 R arm Dumbbell snatch (30lb)
20 Pullups

On the Road: Day #3

Wednesday, Sept. 17;

Florida is hot and very strange. We are in Orlando tonight and tomorrow and then we head north. I was hoping to get a workout in at one of the local affiliates, but we got to our hotel about 20 minutes before the class started. Traffic was pretty bad, and my directions were wrong. I had to scratch that plan, which bummed me out. The next affiliate stop looks like it may be of Friday. It's probably a good thing. I'm still sore and bruised from Monday's painful workout.

No funny stories to share.. just lots of Floridians with big hair and fake fingernails (scary).

On the Road: Day #2

Monday, September 15;

I love finding Crossfit affiliates while I'm on the road. They are always hidden away in abandoned office parks or down scary dingy roads or in gymnastics schools..

I was at Crossfit Revolution in Brandon, FL. I had scoped out the location on the website before I showed up. This one was tucked away in a tiny corner in the second floor of a gymnastics school. Thank goodness for the gymnasts because I kept looking down at them when I was doing my workout. I'd think to myself.. if that 10 year old can do that, then I can totally finish this workout.

It was a nasty one.. the Captian.. it was on the mainsite last Sunday.

Workout:
AMRAP in 3 minutes then rest for a minute.. do this for 5 rounds (does this even make sense? I was confused)
3 squat power cleans (85lbs)
6 pushups
9 air squats
Total: 15 rounds

Doesn't look bad right? WRONG! This is the prescribed for women. The guy prescribed weight is 135lbs.

I have some nasty bruises on my shins and on my thighs. This tell me I did it right. Also, the coach there complimented my cleans.. certainly not as nice as a compliment about the rack, but I'll take what I can get. I of course took no credit for the clean.. I said, "I'll pass the word on to my coach!"

On the Road: Day #1

Sunday, Sept. 14;

I know I said I'd take hiatus with the long blog posts, but this one was just too good to pass up... get ready for a doozy.

I flew in to Tampa, FL tonight. I got in right after 6pm. I figured I'd get checked in and then run out for a quick dinner and then get back to my room in time to get some work done and read a little for school.

I asked the lady at the front desk where I could get some steak and she gave me directions to a nice little local place. I got in our suburban and headed out alone, since none of my colleagues have arrived yet. I was about a mile from the hotel when I saw what I thought was the steak place. I stopped in the left hand turning lane, and when the light turned green I went. Unfortunately, I took the turn a little too sharply. I went up slightly on the median, and when I came down I heard a nasty hiss coming from one of the tires. I turned into the place and parked. I had popped the front driver side tire... seriously popped it.

I had also turned into the wrong place. Thankfully there was an Outback Steakhouse, so I went in there ordered my dinner, sat down, and collected my thoughts. I called a few people from work to let them know what had happened. After my food came, I headed out to the car to check and see if there was a spare tire (remember, this is a company car that's on the road about 11 months a year. There are also a lot of people who are in and out of the car.)

No spare in the back, so I bent down to check and see if there was a spare under the Suburban. As I squated down, I heard this HUGE rip. I gasped and felt the back of my nice white pants. Oh yes.. they had splint from the crotch clear up to the the top of my ass crack... I DIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to think fast.. what do I do? I couldn't walk back into the restaurant, because my ass was literally hanging out of my pants. Being the quick thinker that I am, I remembered that we give away free t-shirts while we're on the road. We often keep extras in the back. I sifted through the backseat and finally found a t-shirt that I could wrap around my waist.

I went back in to the restaurant and found a VERY nice couple who offered to help. We never could find the kit to change the tire, so they called AAA and had the car towed to a Firestone down the street.

In summation... the suburban is parked at the tire place with a blown front tire, the ass is torn out of my pants, I am stuck in Tampa, FL and I have to give hundreds of presentations about my company over the next week. Thankfully, I overpack!

Workout:
Fight Gone Bad partner style
6 minutes at each station, you go-partner goes, 1 minute rest between stations
Row
Wall Ball
KB High Pull
Box Jump
Push Press

Total Reps: 768???

Plus, several squats to look under the car for a spare tire. That should count for something, right?

Setting Some Limitations

Saturday, September 13;

I've gotten pretty busy and decided it's time to cut some things out. The daily blog updating is the easiest thing to eliminate. Sorry guys!
I'll probably throw up my workouts, so I can keep track of them but not much more than that.

It seems like everyone else is pretty busy too.. my comments have dropped to a sad, all time low.
For my friends from Regina, Saskatchewan to Denver, Colorado to Winter Park, Florida, thanks for reading and look back for a return from me in November!

Thurday, September 11;
800 meter run
9 burpees
11 pullups
800 meter run
9 KB High Pulls -45lb kb
11 Jumping Slamballs

Time: 42:50

Friday, September 12;
Fun little barbell complex, don't put bar down
3 deadlifts
3 cleans
3 push jerks
3 front squats

65, 70, 70, 70, 75

I'm strong enough to have gone heavier, but I get really scared with the push jerk , because my shoulder dislocates under a heavy load.
