The Sins of Sugar

Friday, July 25;

I didn't make it in to CFOT today, because I thought it would be a better idea to give my wounded arm a break. It's feeling much better today. It's just really sore at this point. Thank goodness.

Unfortunately, waiting for me when I got into work was a sweet treet. Doughnuts!!!! Now, avid readers of this blog are familiar with my battle against sweets. If there's one thing that is truly hard for me, it is fighting against my desire for sweets. I have in the past been able to cut sugar and sweets out of my diet, but lately that has been harder to do.
Back to the doughnuts.. there they were sitting there.. just 5 feet from my desk. They were just waiting for a kind hand to pick them up and send them down the hatch to a warmer, more digestive place. I always pack my food for the day, so I told myself I had to eat my breakfast before I even thought of going for the doughnuts. I went to my desk, pulled out my 3 blocks of fruit, cottage cheese and almonds, and I ate it. The whole meal filled me up quite nicely. Now I'm full and I have no desire to stuff my face with a doughnut. It's nice to know if I do that, I'll have that awful full feeling and who wants that??!

I passed another test of will power earlier this week. The significant other decided he wanted to get some ice cream before going back to my house the other night. We stopped and picked up his favorite (luckily it's not mine) Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. So, he takes out the pint, opens it, and runs his spoon along the top of the ice cream. He then decides that he is no longer hungry, closes the pint, and puts the pint (nearly untouched) into my freezer!! That's where it's sitting right at this moment. It's begging to be eaten, but my newly found steel will power refuses to let the sweet, dairy treat get the best of me. That thing will sit in there until he eats it, my roommates eat it, or it gets freezer burn and I throw it into the trash.

Kudos on the will power!

Thanks Darcy!! Right now, I'm stuffed full with edamame. The thought of eating anything else makes me ill.

I think that's the secret. If you can force yourself to eat something healthy first quite often you either no longer want the doughnut or at least only eat one :). Got to start doing that myself, fell off the zone diet wagon a couple weeks ago and it's showing in my performance.

mmm edamame, great now I'm crazing soybeans and sushi hahaha

I used to have roommates that would always have junk food and sweets in the house (including B&J ice cream) and the temptation was too hard to resist sometimes. A different story with my current roommate. She had a friend visit a few weeks ago and her friend asked if we had bread for a breakfast sandwich. My roommate proudly replied "we don't have starch in this house."

Agreed either fill up on the healthy or don't even expose yourselve to junk food.

Yeah, I've been pretty good at picking healthy roommates or converting them into being healthy. It's so hard to eat crap, when the other people you live with eat well and look good! ;)

Adrienne, I think we must both have very similar weaknesses. Sweets get me. Especially the miniatures because they're not all that big, and eating one isn't REALLY cheating is it? (10 miniatures later) I'm so proud of you for turning down the doughnuts and the B&J. As I've said in the past, you are one tough chick. :) You rock! Keep up all the hard work!

Awesome job dealing with the temptation!

I should probably mention that after all of your kudos.. I had a few spoonfuls of sherbert at an office party. Damn them!!!!

Sherbert is way better than B&J's. :) Everything in moderation...

That SO of yours needs to take the pint home with him. Or, you could do what is a lot of fun and very satisfying: run the ice cream under hot water and watch the demon melt away!!! That, or think of something naughty to do with it that requires him to eat the ice cream and not you. There are solutions for everything ;)

Georgia.. my MOM reads this blog!!!!! :o

Adrienne - you and I guess your Mom have dirty minds. You could challenge him to a race of some sort, be naughty and cheat, thus, forcing him to eat the ice cream as punishment for not winning. Geez, what were you thinking about? ;)
